Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 17-25 years for Flying Branch and 20-27 years for Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches

  • Educational Qualification:

    • Flying Branch:

      • Minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level
      • Graduation with a minimum of 60% marks in any discipline from a recognized university
    • Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches:

      • Graduation with a minimum of 60% marks in any discipline from a recognized university
    • NCC Special Entry:

      • Minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level
      • Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks in any discipline from a recognized university
      • NCC ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grade in shooting and ‘C’ grade in other activities

Selection Process

The selection process for the AFCAT consists of the following steps:

  1. Written Examination:

    • Objective type exam consisting of General Knowledge, English Language, Mathematics, and Reasoning
    • Separate papers for Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches
  2. Physical Fitness Test:

    • Candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for a physical fitness test (PFT)
    • The PFT consists of a 2.4 km run, 100m sprint, push-ups, sit-ups, and rope climbing
  3. Interview:

    • Candidates who qualify the PFT will be called for an interview
    • The interview assesses the candidate’s mental aptitude, personality, and suitability for a career in the IAF

Training

Selected candidates will undergo training at various IAF training academies. The training is rigorous and covers various aspects of military aviation and ground duties.
