Eligibility Criteria for UGC NET:
General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree.
Candidates who are currently pursuing their Master’s degree or an equivalent course, or those who have appeared for the final year examination of their qualifying Master’s degree and are awaiting results, can also apply for the UGC NET. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and will be considered eligible for the award of JRF/Assistant Professor only after successfully completing their Master’s degree or equivalent examination with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender category candidates). These candidates must complete their Master’s degree or equivalent within two years from the date of the NET result; otherwise, they will be considered disqualified.
Candidates belonging to the Third gender category are eligible for the same relaxation in fees, age, and eligibility criteria (for JRF and Assistant Professor) as provided for SC/ST/PwD categories. The qualifying cut-offs for this category will be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PwD/OBC-NCL/General-EWS categories in the respective subject.
Ph.D. degree holders who completed their Master’s level examination by 19th September 1991 (regardless of the date of result declaration) are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) to appear in the NET.
UGC NET Exam Pattern 2023
The Test will consist of two papers. Both papers will consist of objective-type, multiple-choice questions. There will be no break between papers. Each question carries two (2) marks. for Each correct response, the candidate will get two marks. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses.
